Interior Design I
FACS 200 - 002
Interior Design I takes a look at humans and the relationship they have with their environments.
01
Theory Applied to Interior Design
Expanding on the change theory, a 3D model of a public space was constructed. The model was to portray a change in the environment based on a related article. The goal of the project was for the model to express how people adapt to the changes in their surrounding environment.
02
Theory as an Experience
Through an interactive setup, the meaning of place theory was presented in a creative way. The sense of place was the aim of this project, specifically, the nostalgia we get from our old childhood bedrooms. As adults, when looking back on our old rooms, it can bring memories to come flooding back.
03
Theory in Action
Expanding on the design process, an original group creation was made presenting a specific Gestalt Theory. The mobile project was constructed to embrace simplicity, the laws of proximity, and continuation.
04
Meaning of Place Theory
In order to show the meaning of place theories: place identity, sense of place, and place attachment, the goals of the assignment were to find people demonstrating these theories. This assignment is a great example of how an environment can influence and impact people.
05
Change Theory
COVID-19 took over practically everything, this is no exception to interior design. The Change Theory assignment's goals were to dig deeper into this topic, addressing how people and interior design adapt to situations and surroundings.
06
Symbolic Interactionism and Person-Environment Theories
The goal of this symbolic interactionism assignment was to give examples and explain how people act towards objects based on their meaning for that individual. Belongings can impact, and even influence, a person's values, and vice versa.
07
Ecosystem Model
The prompt for this assignment was that the designer was hired to develop plans for an all-season outdoor dining experience. Then, the chosen space was to be explained how humans would interact with natural, social, and designed environments within that space.
08
Functionalism
A piece of furniture around campus was to be found, then, analyzed. Specifically, details regarding its purpose, fitness, utility, intent, quality, context, beauty, and overall functionalism.
09
Gestalt Theory
An example of each Gestalt Theory was made using pieces of different colored paper, arranged in a creative and unique way to actually indicate each theory.
